Europe defined by its people

By Florian Mueck • Oct 27th, 2009 • Category: My Europe

The “Send an update to your fans” function in Facebook is a great tool. One click only and you are right in the center of attention of all your followers… In the light of our daily tsunami-like information overload, it is still a good way to communicate directly with a multitude of individual opinion leaders.
In [...]

New Orleans, the city of Jazz and Mardi Gras - it has always been famous for its unrivalled French Quarter with its vibrant nightlife! I dove into it once when I stopped over on a roadtrip in 1995. Cats Meow on Bourbon Street - a famous Karaoke joint. I was standing in the crowd, admiring [...]

The Birth of The Festival

By Florian Mueck • Sep 4th, 2009 • Category: My Europe, The Project, Top Story

The night of the 6th of September 1997 was the night that changed the way I looked at Europe forever… I had arrived to the beautiful city of Barcelona a couple of days beforehand. The summer still covered this Mediterranean town with its hot and humid sheet. Barcelona had exceeded my best expectations, for I had never been to the city of Mediterranean wonders. Gaudí’s crazy constructions, the warm summer beaches, the picturesque Barrio Gótico. Straight away I felt at home. There I was, an ERASMUS student far away from home. Great!

A good European…

Hajo Schumacher is one of Germany’s top journalists, without a doubt. And the former chief editor of the German edition of the lifestyle magazine Max loves to unleash what’s on his mind - hardly ever using any form of euphemism.
When I asked him about who might be a good media partner for The Festival, he [...]

I am European // The Festival Song

By Florian Mueck • May 11th, 2009 • Category: European Journalists, Music Theme, My Europe, The Festival Embassy, The Festival Quick Facts, The Project, Top Story

More than any regulation, norm, treaty, or even a common currency could ever accomplish, music has always touched the hearts of people. We needed a song, a hymn for our pro-European movement. There has never been an uplifting, authentic, pro-European song out there which could hit the dance floors across the continent. We needed a producer…

The Festival twittered?

By Florian Mueck • Apr 3rd, 2009 • Category: My Europe, The Project, Top News

Tom Hayton, British photographer and our family member to be, is a great networker. We were having lunch yesterday when he mentioned that later that day, he was going to meet Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter at some Twitter get-together in Barcelona. And he invited me…

Every movement needs its shirt!

By Florian Mueck • Jan 31st, 2009 • Category: My Europe, The Festival Embassy, The Festival Quick Facts, Top Story

“I am European” is the movement slogan of The Festival. Based on this slogan we wanted to create a design which can serve as an umbrella for everyone who feels European, but which also implies the national background of the person who wears it. For all 34 Home Zones, for people from Austria to people from the UK.

Ask Francisco - The blog about Spain

By Florian Mueck • Dec 23rd, 2008 • Category: Home Zone Spain, My Europe

My friend Francisco from Spain launched a very funny, informative and even educational blog on “anything you always wanted to know about Spain and never dared, cared to ask or simply never knew who the heck to ask.”
Here are his latest entries or go directly to his weblog…

English for Europeans… an idea!

By Florian Mueck • Dec 10th, 2008 • Category: My Europe

In my presentations about The Festival, when there is a Q&A session afterwards, many times the language issue pops up. “Yes, indeed”, I tend to respond, “We lose some 280 Million Europeans, if we promote English as our preferred communication tool… But we also gain some 300 Million people in Europe.”
For us, the only factor that matters [...]
