Anne Immelé is a French photographer and PhD in arts. Her artistic and theoretic field of research focuses on the question of photographic sequences and alignment. She teaches at the Quai, École supérieure d’art of Mulhouse and the Marc-Bloch-Universtity Strasbourg. Anne has participated in numerous exhibitions, among others in the Centre Européen d’Actions Artistiques Contemporaines, Strasbourg, the Centre Régional d’Art Contemporain de Montbéliard, and the Galerie Dazibao, Montréal. In 2003 she co-published the book “W I R” together with the French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy. The photographs shown in the book belong to the collections of the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain and the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. //

About The Festival

“When I heard about this amazing European project, straight away I wanted to help somehow. Just getting to know our fellow Europeans, far away from strategic political roadmaps, compromises and agreements, is a great cause. I grew up in an area, which historically always was canvassed by two peoples. Now, borders have gone. People move freely and former dispute belongs to the past. Europe is our future, there is no alternative to that, and thanks to The Festival I will have the chance to meet all those exciting ‘team members’ from Norway, Ireland, Macedonia, Lithuania, Portugal, … I’m really looking forward to this European happening. On the way to Berlin 2012, I would be delighted to share my photographic know-how. Hopefully, I can play some role in the Art Competition. See you in 2012!”

Current work

“For my series Les Antichambres (The Antechambers) I’m photographing the urban environment of the Rhine region, specifically at the meeting point of three countries; France, Germany and Switzerland. Somewhere between documentary and fiction, my photographs, whose evocative nature is entirely based on the moment, examine the notions of transmission, the sharing of a common experience, one’s appreciation of everyday life, the gap between political will and the possibility of real life, between an architectural project and the dimension of human appropriation”, says Anne about her current project Les Antichambres.
